Tips: Digital File Formats and Transfer Methods
If you are providing or sending Sign-GrafX a digital graphic design which has been
prepared elsewhere, please follow these guidelines. Preferred graphic formats are vectorized (outline) generic .eps,
and/or Adobe Illustrator (.ai), or CorelDraw (.cdr) with artwork in outline
form and text also saved as outlines. Vectorized/outline formats permit unlimited
enlargement and reproduction while maintaining perfect clarity and resolution
of your image. Some artwork must be printed rather than cut in vinyl, due to
complexity or detail of the image. In such cases, we still prefer .eps or
.ai formats, but will accept pixilated images in BMP and TIFF formats from
programs that include: Adobe Photoshop (version 7 or lower), Corel Photopaint
(version 9 or lower),etc. In extreme cases, .PDF, .JPEG, and .GIF files might be useable,
however you risk less than desirable results, if the resolution (dpi) is low.
Also in extreme cases we can scan and develop artwork from your
“hard copy” or printed design, as long as you can hand-deliver
it as a high-resolution “camera-ready” black & white print.
The better the artwork you supply, the easier and less costly our pre-production
work will be for you. If particular font styles are essential to your design and cannot
be provided in vectorized/outline form, then please be prepared to supply
font names, font platform (MAC/PC), and ideally font files for all fonts required.
Please be aware that the resolution (dpi) level of your pixilated
images will directly determine the quality of the final printed image. Also
be aware that the resolution and size of a pixilated image file are directly
related, and file size will determine the method you must use for sending
the file to us. If your file is less than 1.8 Mb in size, please email it to us. For files
over 1.8Mb, please use http://sendthisfile.com. It is free and you can send
us a huge file this way. You may also provide small files (less than 2.5 Mb) on a floppy,
or almost any size file on a CD, which will be hand-delivered or mailed to
us. Your file preparation and transmission with these guidelines
in mind will greatly simplify the project and save you from additional setup
charges. In the case of company logos and other original artwork included
in your design, your original designer can often supply appropriate files
directly to us, if you put us in touch. If you are not certain how to handle your files, please call
us or email Bob for assistance (bob@sign-grafx.com) |
