Awnings

Our top-quality custom awnings are made to your design with welded aluminum frames, vinyl fabric covers, and "egg-crate" light diffusers below high-output fluorescent lamps. We build them to meet U/L standards when required, and we make them sturdy.

Awnings are typically used where an architectural addition to the storefront will improve its eye-appeal, protect pedestrians from the elements, add lighting to a dark sidewalk area, and offer a broad surface for your sign without overextending the permitted sign area (only the lettered area counts as your sign).

Please note that awnings usually need to be cleaned once or twice a year, since they collect airborne dirt much faster than a typical sign. Also, be aware that an awning will shed water, snow and even ice, like a roof, at its front edge. This can create an unforeseen hazard for pedestrians.

Most ordinances will require that your awning be at least 8 feet up from the ground, and not extend too far out over a "public way", so as to avoid becoming a public safety hazard. An awning typically projects 2 to 3 feet out from the storefront, and rises 3 to 4 feet from bottom to top. The lettering is usually done on a vertical surface, toward the bottom of the front.

Costs start at $100 or more per lineal foot of awning length for non-illuminated pieces, and $120 or more per lineal foot for electric (back-lit) awnings, plus the cost of installation, U/L labels, etc.
